Your Riverside Haven Awaits
PRIVATE ACCESS TO THE WHANGANUI RIVER
The mighty Whanganui River is New Zealand's longest navigable river and is of immense significance to Māori. A significant proportion of the river is flanked by steep cliffs and gorges, which renders a sojourn along most parts of the river impossible.
Only three hours South of Auckland or four hours North of Wellington, you will enjoy private access to this majestic river with the glampsite on the banks of one of the few accessible beaches.
CUSTOM MADE LUXURY TENT
Feel at one with nature without compromising on comfort in our custom-designed tent. The only one of its kind in New Zealand, our eco explorer tent emulates the countryside's rolling hills with its fluid lines and spaciousness, using full-size doors and large windows in order to maximise stunning river and rural views.
PURE RELAXATION OR ADVENTURERS PARADISE
Te Awa Glamping is in an ideal location along the Forgotten World Highway to either take a break from the busyness of life or get busy with an array of activities.
Our custom tent offers everything you'll need to relax and unwind in luxury or if you're an active relaxer, you can grab a bike and explore the range of trails in the area, canoe down to the Lavender Cafe for a coffee or hop on the Forgotten World Adventure rail carts or jet boat and explore the fabulous King Country.
RURAL NEW ZEALAND WORKING FARM
Experience a glimpse of authentic Kiwi farming, while you drive through beautiful rolling landscape to reach your glampsite.
Te Awa Glamping is situated on a working sheep and beef farm and once you turn off the road, the track becomes a gravel track for about 1km to the tent. If you don't want to arrive by road, you are most welcome to arrive by canoe, jet boat or air.
Please note that as we are an operating farm, pets are strictly prohibited for the health and safety of both your pet and our stock and working dogs.
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS GLAMPING
We are passionate about eco-tourism and protecting our unique environment and have made the Tiaki Promise. All aspects of the glamp have been consciously put together in order to provide minimal environmental impact. Furthermore, we allocate funding each year that goes directly toward environmental regeneration and protecting our Awa.
Fencing/Planting - We have fenced off a wetland area only a short distance from the tent and are continuing to plant it with natives and bee-friendly plants. We have planted poles for erosion control and are continually planting natives in riparian zones along the Whanganui River.
Off-the-Grid - We are 100% off-the-grid, with the lights and fridge powered by the sun.
Waste Minimisation - We are working towards zero waste, using NZ suppliers such as Bit by Bit, Real World and Dazz who work with the same ethos. Furthermore, all recyclables are taken into town and recycled and food waste is either eaten by our chooks or composted.
Reduce Food Miles - As much food in your hamper is provided by us on the farm, such as farm-laid eggs, fruit from our own trees, homemade bread and other goodies. Whatever can't be grown/homemade, we use local suppliers to fill the gap.
Supporting Local - We work with local companies in order to support growth and exposure for what our amazing little community offers.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU
Creating a luxury glamping site on our farm was a natural decision for our family of five. We love sharing hospitality with others so they can relax and enjoy the blessings we have at hand here in New Zealand. Being in such an incredible location we are excited to share the amazing landscape and adventurous activities nearby.
We can’t wait to welcome you!
